Who is eligible for Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) on the NHS?
Tirzepatide (also called Mounjaro) is a weight loss medicine that makes you feel fuller for longer and therefore less hungry. It comes in the form of an injection which you inject yourself, once a week.
To be considered for treatment, certain eligibility criteria must be met:
- You must have a BMI of 40 or above, and
- Be living with at least four of the following weight-related health conditions:
• Type 2 diabetes
• High blood pressure (hypertension)
• Heart disease (cardiovascular disease)
• Abnormal blood fats (dyslipidaemia)
• Obstructive sleep apnoea
If your BMI is over 37.5 and you are from a Black, Asian, or other minority ethnic background, you may still be eligible as long as you have four or more of the conditions listed above.
If you believe you meet these criteria above, please email Thornbury road surgery on nhsnwl.thornburyroad@nhs.net and we will be in touch once local guidance has been published.
